Wedding Photography Southend Barns – Sarah & Phil’s Superhero themed day!

Wedding Photography Southend Barns – it’s such a gorgeous venue with a little bit of everything! Beautiful outdoor space, a dairy barn, an amazing wooden beamed reception barn and a stunning bridal suite! With everything you need on one site, it’s no wonder this venue is so popular with couples for Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter weddings. Here is their website: Southend Barns

On 17th August 2017 the weather was beautifully warm without being overly hot. I began my day with our lovely bride Sarah at her parents home in Portsmouth. Sarah was getting ready with her family and bridesmaids. She wore her hair up in a beautiful, naturally messy style. It was the perfect style to suit her strapless dress. The bridesmaids dresses were a fun, bright blue colour. This weddings theme was comic book and superheros – something both Sarah and Phil really love. The colour and overall atmosphere of the day was vibrant and fun so their theme tied in perfectly!

Our groom Phil was getting ready at Southend Barns, with my lovely second photographer Rachel capturing the morning. The wedding suite is perfect for getting ready in for either the bride or groom. There’s so much space and lovely light – good for us photographers! You can see images of the wedding suite here

The Ceremony

The ceremony took place in the Dairy Barn at Southend Barns. I waited out the front of the venue for Sarah to arrive with her Dad and bridesmaids and captured some images of them before then went inside. Sarah had an unusual request for a photo of her and Phil on opposite sides of the sliding entrance doors at Southend Barns before they saw each other for the ceremony. They simply reached around and held hands – very sweet!

Phil then made his way to the ceremony barn and as Sarah came into the room there were tears! It was so amazing to see – I love a groom that cries! The whole ceremony was incredibly moving and very emotional. It was a pleasure to capture it in photos for them.

The Reception and evening

As the ceremony finished, guests gathered outside to throw confetti at the newlyweds. The sun was shining and it was the perfect afternoon for canapes and fun outdoors. Rachel and I circulated, capturing natural, candid moments before attempting group images. Sarah and Phil were naturals when it came to having some couple photos taken. With a relaxed approach from us, they were able to be themselves and enjoy spending some time alone together away from guests.

The wedding breakfast room was decorated in their comic theme. Sarah is a brilliant graphic designer and her skills really came to show for the table names and the seating chart. I was very impressed and suggested she start her own wedding stationary company – she would be amazing at this!

Guests started to make their way into the wedding breakfast room shortly after we had photographed the details. Speeches commenced before the meal. The Best Men were so funny and succeeded to embarrass our lovely couple as much as they possibly could! The ‘head in hands cowering in shame’ photos prove how completely mortified Sarah and Phil were when one of their biggest secrets was shared with the family…I won’t give anything away but lets just say it’s not something you’d want your parents to find out about! I wonder if Phil has forgiven his Best Men for sharing this huge secret!

After speeches, food followed. The guests enjoyed some yummy food, including delicious pies! Yum yum!

Evening entertainment followed after a short break outside where everyone could stretch their legs and grab some fresh air.  The couple cut their amazing super hero cake and then began their first dance right afterwards. The party kicked off with a bang and Rachel and I captured some dancing shots before making our way home.

Thanks to an amazing couple! We had the best day celebrating with you both and fully enjoyed being a part of your gorgeous wedding! x x x
